Guide Hire
Geri is available for private hire by the day or half-day. Dartmoor is Geri’s home turf but she can guide in any British lowland, coastal, hill and moorland area of Britain.
Routes can be a general introduction to the area or focus on scenery, natural history, ecology or prehistory. Length and terrain can be tailored, from a gentle stroll on easy paths to an all-day hike across trackless moorland. See Geri’s sample nature walks and guided walks for some of an almost limitless number of options.
Level is generally introductory though Geri has more expertise in natural history and her specialist subject on Mastermind would be woodland mosses! Geri promises not to bore you with more detail than you want, and to keep up the interest of adults and children alike through interaction and simple activities such as looking at bugs through a magnifier. We’ll also spend as much time as you wish quietly enjoying what’s around us as we walk or admire a view. Fancy a traditional pasty lunch or a Devon cream tea (or both??) – it can be arranged!
After finding out about your needs and interests, Geri will suggest one or more routes/activities tailored for you.
“Thank you for a magical day!!”

“Geri tailored a walk for me, in my eighties and not with the best balance. As we walked on the moor she was full of information and is so knowledgeable about the area, its birds, and flowers. Our morning encompassed a visit to see a 1000 year old Yew tree in a nearby churchyard, a thatched longhouse, and finally the beautiful river at Dartmeet. It was a lovely opportunity which I could not have taken on my own. Geri is empathetic and understanding of less able walkers. I would definitely ask her again for another tour.”

“Many thanks Geri for a lovely informative walk…We have learnt a lot about things that we would normally just walk past.”
“My family and I had a wonderful day hiking in the moor with Geri and learning about the history of Dartmoor, the beautiful woodlands and the different types of mosses and ferns. Geri is very knowledgeable and engaging and we all had a lovely time. Geri also shared a beautiful route for us to hike on our own the day after, which was amazing! We would highly recommend Geri if you are looking for a Dartmoor guide.”

“My husband and I hired Geri for 3 days. And it was incredible! To start, Geri was in touch via email and Zoom before our trip to describe the many opportunities... We had wonderful weather and walked to tors & blanket bogs, along picturesque rivers, & in woodlands. Geri was flexible as to where we wanted to visit and how long we wanted to walk each day, allowing time for a relaxed pace while seeing A LOT!! She is a naturalist and historian, and we benefited from her extensive knowledge of the park. Thank you, Geri. If our future UK travels bring us close to Dartmoor, we'd love to have you be our guide on another adventure.”
